Google has released the source code of Chromium OS with some details about its status. “ First, it's all about the web. All apps are web apps. The entire experience takes place within the browser and there are no conventional desktop applications. This means users do not have to deal with installing, managing and updating programs”.

Basically Chromuim OS is Debian-based distribution (Linux kernel + GNU tools + X-server-Org-core). It will be optimized and integrated with Chrome (Google's web browser). Google Chrome OS (the closed version of Chromium OS) of will be ready for consumers this time next year

To summarize this up, Chromium OS is just another netbook operation system designed to run Google's web browser only.
