If you are using files sharing websites (like rapidshare), you know that your limited with certain file size for uploading (normally 200 mb). Now, if you get a large file say 700mb and you want to share it with your friend, you will need to split it to smaller files. In Windows you have a lot of programs that capable to do that but in Linux there is always command line tool for that :). Do not worry, I know you hate command line, therefore I put this tutorial for you.

There is a very good program to do that, it is called PeaZip. I will use it to split 37.5 mb zip file to small files each 11 mb. So let us start:

1- Open PeaZip, and go to file and click on “Create archive”

2- Now you will get this dialog. Specify where you want put the new small files in output section and specify the size of output files.

3- Now add the large file by right click on the white section and choose “Add file(s)”.

4- After you finish adding files just click on “OK” button and you will get this processing dialog.

5- This is the final small files.

Now, how do you join them together?

1- open the first file using PeaZip. Then click on extract icon in the tool bar.

2- In the extract dialog, specify where you want to put the final file and then click OK.

3- The final file will be extracted.

4- You can double check by open the final file using Ark or fileroller.

Enjoy sharing large files in Linux.
